Guest Speaker, Sara Behrman, freelance grant writer and consultant
Our theme: “Show Me the Money,” with freelance grant writer and consultant, Sara Behrman. Sara has worked with government agencies, libraries, and nonprofits in 9 states and 2 countries. Now, Sara offers her multimillion dollar grant writing expertise on a contractual basis, tapping more than thirty years of work as a technical writer, former professional librarian, creative writing instructor, and published nonfiction writer. She has written thousands of funded grant proposals ($52 million and counting!), and has successfully managed and evaluated scores of grant-funded projects. Sara’s creative writing credits include 38 feature articles and creative pieces in regional and national publications (e.g. American Libraries, School Library Journal). She is a member of Wordstock for Teachers, a classroom-based professional development writing program for teachers, and a popular workshop leader at the annual Oregon Writing Festival.
Sara will share resources and tips for writers and illustrators interested in learning more about applying for fellowships, awards, and grants to support their creative endeavors. State, regional, and national funding opportunities will be highlighted. This will be a collaborative learning opportunity, so feel free to bring your favorite tip, funding resource, or success story!
